This study aims to improve the ability
of Orientation and Mobility (O & M) skills primarily recognize self (self-awareness)
for blind students prep classes SLB Ma'Arif Muntilan using contextual approach
.
This study uses action research approach
(PTK). Classroom action research model used is the model of Kemmis and
McTaggart. There are four elements of action research are developed, namely
planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study used a single subject
because there is only one student in the class preparation. Settings used in
this study is on the inside and outside of the classroom. This study was
conducted in October 2010 until December 2010. In this study, researchers used
three data collection techniques, the techniques of performance tests, interviews,
and observations. Test the validity of this research is done by using the
content validity (comparing the contents of the instrument with the material).
Data collected on the learning process of each cycle were analyzed
descriptively using percentages techniques to see trends in learning activities
.
The results showed that: 1 ) the
contextual approach is able to make learning more fun and flexible because it
connects students with real-life context so as to make students become more
active and enthusiastic. 2 ) based on data analysis, cycle 1 obtained
percentage attainment ability O & M increased by 51.25 % or 36.67 % of the
pre-test. In cycle 2 percentage obtained attainment ability O & M by 80 %,
an increase of 113.34 % from the pre-test. 3 ) contextual learning is proven to
increase the ability of O & M blind students prep classes SLB Ma'Arif
Muntilan significantly.
